DEVON ENERGY TOWER, Oklahoma City, OK – LEED CERTIFIED (2011-2012)

Specifier: Kendall/Heaton Associates / Houston, TX
Lighting Designer: Quentin Thomas Associates, Inc. / Douglaston, NY
Installer: NEWMAT USA LTD. / W. Babylon, NY

Project: If there is one single building that is emblematic of what might be called the renaissance of Oklahoma City, it is the gleaming new Devon Energy Tower. Soaring 50 stories over the low-rise downtown, the glass-and-steel tower has quickly become a reference point and a thing of wonder.

Early on, Newmat USA was approached by the architect and the lighting designer for two specific design intents. The first was a circular backlit wall that would surround the entire core of the building; the second, backlit operating light boxes for the ceiling areas of the main floor elevator lobbies.

For the circular core wall, Newmat supplied and installed 304 single-layer, curved translucent panels behind wood louvered panels. For the elevator lobbies, Newmat supplied and installed 19 three-dimensional double-layer translucent light boxes complete with concealed metal skeletons and operable using manually operated cranks in accordance with the design request from the lighting designer.

The completed Newmat scope of work fits perfectly within the overall design of the building, which integrates the beauty of decorative products, such as wood and stone, to provide the comfort of a natural setting for the workplace.
