Project: For this new office, some of the building design elements needed to remain unchanged; these included a wide aluminum anodized grid and translucent ceiling panels that surround the core of the office and are visible from the street below, not only on this floor but also on other floors.
The architect and the lighting designer wanted Newmat to duplicate this design for a portion of the core ceiling; they also wanted to incorporate a camouflage design with a highly reflective mirror-like finish. Newmat USA designed both a custom grid to match the specification of the original and custom translucent panels with a torsion spring system using our NewLight membranes.
We integrated the camouflage design into our panels using a die-cut aluminum plate that was highly polished to achieve the mirror finish. The result is a striking combination of glowing translucent and opaque mirror finish that achieves the design intent, maintains the functionality of the entire system, and remains accessible for future re-lamping.
